Food Technology

Food Technology – Something new!

We have been kitchen testing some great new recipes in Food Tech this term and they have been delicious. French toast (with a secret ingredient that made all the difference), cannelloni, raspberry and pear turnovers (amazing colour inside) and curried meat pies have all been great hits. On the theory side of the subject, Year 9/10 students have been learning the difference between ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates as well as about the various regulations governing food labelling. Our year 7 girls are putting together a recipe book. This will be a special production as every student in the class comes from a different cultural background and each one will contribute a recipe from that culture. Completion is planned for Term 4.

NAIDOC Week

Congratulations to the students who won our inaugural secondary campus NAIDOC Week competition! A set of clues was provided and it was the students’ task to find out which indigenous Australian matched the each clue. The winners were presented with their prizes of an Australian Geographic voucher plus a small gift with an indigenous theme at school assembly. The Special Days Committee members are pleased to say the response to the competition was very enthusiastic. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Physical Education

Sirius College Inter school sports

Sirius have enjoyed a very successful start to the semester, emerging as champions in both the girls and boys Intermediate Futsal competitions. The boys went through the day undefeated, winning the grand final in a comfortable match against Minnaret 4-2. The girls were just as dominant, going through all matches undefeated.

Sirius also participated in the Inter school Basketball competition, while both the boys and girls teams gave a solid account of themselves, they could not meet the high achievements set by the Futsal teams. The year 7 and 8’s will be representing the school in the coming weeks and we hope they can enjoy similar success!

RV Corner

Dear parents,

Here are some feedback from students about our excursion which was on the 19th and we have visited different places of worship from different religions.

On Thursday the 19th of July we visited a Hindu Temple, a synagogue, a cathedral and a church. We listened to the ‘father` at the church where he spoke about the churches past endeavours and other community benefiting projects that they did. The `Rabbi` talked about many Jewish celebrations and traditions, including the `shofar` which they blew on Jewish New Year. The Hindu speaker explained and talked about the temples history and what Hindu`s believed in. The whole excursion was very enlightening and it lifted our eyes so we could see the bigger picture and acknowledge and respect other religions.
